Dating back to the era of St. Patrick in the 5th century, the name began as the given name “Macraith” before evolving into the surname “Mac Craith” by the 13th century. It wasn’t until 500 years later that the spelling “Megraw” emerged. Today, the most common variation of the surname is “McGrath.”
